As a Hampton Roads wedding photographer, I often find myself immersed in the unique stories of couples, each celebration a chapter in the grand novel of love. Ariana and Mikey’s wedding at Talbot Park Baptist Church in Norfolk, VA, was nothing short of extraordinary, filled with unexpected twists, laughter, and the stormiest of forecasts.
The day began with an unusual weather forecast – a tornado watch in Norfolk, VA. The excitement and nervous energy buzzed through the air as I prepared to capture the moments that would unfold. Having previously shot Ariana’s sister’s wedding, I was already familiar with the close-knit, joyous atmosphere that enveloped this family.
The venue, Talbot Park Baptist Church, stood as a witness to many love stories, and Ariana and Mikey’s day promised to be no exception. The church’s timeless elegance provided a perfect backdrop for the unfolding drama of the day. However, the unpredictable weather added an extra layer of anticipation, especially when everyone’s phones started the alarm of a ‘tornado warning’, headed directly toward the church. I remained calm, and just prayed we would be able to get some sun at some point for the bride and groom portraits, but the show must go on! In a daring move, Ariana and Mikey decided to have a first look before the ceremony, braving the raindrops and gusts of wind. The decision to step outside in between rain showers was spontaneous and thrilling, adding an element of unpredictability to their love story.
